Talk it through

Talk roles

Talk roles give each pupil in a group a role in the discussion, such as the one who starts, the one who builds and the one who challenges, each with a sentence stem.

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Give each pupil a role and its stem.
  2. The group discusses the question, each playing their part.
  3. Swap roles next time so every pupil tries each one.

Why it works

Roles spread the talking round the group and teach pupils the moves good discussion is made of.
